JOB SUMMARYThe Harvest Intern works under direct supervision of the Cellar Master, assists in the harvest, crush and bottling of wine product and materials. Performs sampling, equipment cleaning and sanitation and other wine cellar operations.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe following reflects management's definition of essential functions for this job but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned. To perform this job successfully, an individual must have regular and reliable attendance and be able to perform each essential function from the list below satisfactorily, with or without accommodation, and carry out all duties in a confidential manner, at all times. Working overtime, when requested by your supervisor, is a condition of your employment.ALL Cleans and sanitizes crush equipment, hoses, presses, pumps, lines, tanks, barrels & barrel equipment, kegs, bins, and cleans in and around the winery (floors, crush pad, bathrooms, break room, etc.) Prepares sanitation chemicals and stores them using safety procedures and instructions Pressure washes cellar floors Performs the physical labor associated with cap management applications; pump over, punch down, Pulsair and etc. Conducts fermentation additions to barrels, tanks according to specific instruction and documentation under direction of the winemakers Executing work orders for yeast rehydration as prescribed by the protocols in the cellar Standard Operation Procedures Performs basic barrel procedures; i.e. topping, painting, stirring, bung maintenance and checks Conducts vineyard fruit sampling Tank to Tank transfer/racking Prepares and performs SO2 additions Gathers samples for lab analysis and winemaker bench blendsREQUIRED COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. Ability to follow instructions; follow safety practices and procedures for the operation of cellar and bottling equipment Basic knowledge of mathematical equations Ability to work varying shifts/days of the week, including weekends, and overtime as requested Show up on time and ready to work at the start of each shift Shows commitment to high standards and a passion for learning the duties assigned Ability to work quickly and adapt to the immediate needs during harvest, while being tidy and efficient Excellent communication and teamworkMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must be 21 years of age or older Bilingual verbal skills in English/Spanish desirable ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThe physical requirements listed are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions and key responsibilities of this position.The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner at all times. Frequent operation of winemaking and cellar equipment as well as computer and other office equipment, the ability to sit at a workstation for periods of time; the ability to work in the vineyard and cellar; and the ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, lift, twist, pull, push, carry, grasp, reach and stoop as needed, and to lift and carry items up to 100 pounds frequently during harvest season. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to smell and taste wine blends for quality.WORK ENVIRONMENTReasonable accommodations may be made upon request and in appropriate circumstances. The employee works in the vineyard, laboratory, cellar, production, and office environments. The noise level in the office work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Work in the field, especially during bottling and/or harvest may have moderate to heavier noise levels. The employee may encounter high temperatures, inclement weather and various outdoor working conditions in the vineyard. Work requires weekend and/or evening shifts.
